The antenna generation (those who grew up in Racine, WI without cable or satellite televison) can probably remember how great cable was. There were probably three good reasons why cable was very appealing.
1. Picture quality was great 2. Movie channels 3. No need for an antenna
Of course, the big draw back was and still is that cable, was far from free. The same holds true for satellite channels. Many homes are now paying well over $100 per month to have a high quality signal of hundreds of channels. But for many of us, the cost can no longer compete with the technological improvements.
Fortunately, a home owner in Racine can now receive over 20 high definiton channels and in higher quality than than cable or satellite providers at no cost. That is correct - its free!
And you don't necesarrily have to give up some of the bells and whistles you enjoy with your cable/satellite set box. Anyone with a home computer can record live television, pause, rewind and fast forward commercials at the touch of a button. And that handy dandy program guide that shows all the shows for several weeks in advance is also available for free as well. I suspect that as more people of the antenna generation learn that the highest quality TV picture is now available for free over the air they will rethink how much they want to pay for the 100 or more channels they seldom watch.
